Outreach with a Video Camera

Filming full-length videos is a staple in the action sports world. I’ve been fortunate to learn how to film and edit within that world, with a particular emphasis on street skiing. Street skiing is niche, but those involved absolutely love it. It’s typically filmed with a crew, which creates opportunities to build relationships, serve consistently, and share the Gospel.

This season of filming started off slow. The original crew fell apart due to injuries and loss of interest. Still, we kept pushing toward creating a street video with a smaller crew of three. The two riders I spent most of the season filming with are younger believers, and our time together—both on and off the spot—was filled with prayer and conversations about theology. That consistency led to real spiritual growth. One of them even told me he “can’t wait to wake up and read the Bible every day.” It’s been incredible to see their growth, both in their faith and in their skiing. Now that the season has wrapped, the street video we’ve been working on is in the editing process and will premiere this fall.

Filming with those guys also opened the door to another relationship. In January, a pro filmer/skier (check out the 2023 movie of the year DAYCARE) asked me to shoot a second angle at a spot. Their crew had about ten people, and I had the chance to pray with a few of them and share the Gospel with another pro. That day was a big step for me and led to more opportunities to film with him. Every time we were building a spot, I looked for ways to share my faith. The younger guys I had been mentoring did the same. It was powerful to watch disciples making more disciples. It was clear the Holy Spirit was at work in his heart—he would often bring up spiritual conversations on his own.

To wrap up the season, that same filmer invited me on a week-long street trip with a crew of five. It was an opportunity to serve and continue sharing my faith. I focused on encouraging the group and serving in practical ways—cooking, cleaning, driving—and the guys noticed. They thanked me for the positivity and leadership, and said the trip felt different from others they’d been on because of the environment. Throughout the week, I was able to share the Gospel consistently, and two of the five began taking steps toward knowing the Lord personally. The filmer who invited me even prayed that God would reveal Himself through the Holy Spirit—and He did. Through several moments, he was overwhelmed by the Spirit and said he believes in Jesus. It’s been amazing to witness, and I’m excited to see him continue to grow and fully surrender to the Lord. Another guy shared that he learned a lot on the trip and wants to understand more about surrendering his life to God.

Now that the season is over, it’s incredible to look back and see how the Lord has been moving in this culture. I’m excited to see what He does next. If you would like to give to support our outreach to riders please click here to donate.
