2020 Copper Mtn Trip Report

It can be intimidating strapping in at 12,000 feet with wind in your face that can blow you over. For many of the guys on JSAW’s trip to Copper Mtn., Colorado, it was their first time snowboarding in the mountains. The first day we had bluebird sky and rode from 9-3pm with a quick break for lunch. Then we visited the Woodward Barn, an action sports training facility at the base of the mountain. It has a skatepark, several foam pits and gymnast type trampolines that all the pro riders train on. At the end of the day everyone was exhausted or had a headache from the altitude. The second day we had 10 inches of fresh snow. We spent most of the day exploring the back bowls and the trees cutting fresh tracks in the powder. It was epic to say the least. That evening we visited the local rec center to swim before heading back to the church to skate the mini-ramp and sleep.

In the evenings we spent a little time reading the Bible and talking about identity and having confidence in Christ. It was quite fitting being that each of the 9 guys on JSAW’s trip were facing things that challenged their confidence all weekend. From cooking breakfast to dropping in on a double black diamond run to driving on an ice covered interstate, it was a weekend that pushed everyone out of their comfort zone. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of sound mind.”  It is so important to have our identity in Christ and to rely on his Spirit in all situations. Life can be intimidating, whether at the top of a mountain or just at school or work. Philippians 4:7 says, “The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
